Position Description:
Carmel Clay Schools seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) leader. The successful candidate will have expertise in facilitating DEI efforts in an educational environment and a proven record of strong leadership, management, and program implementation skills. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator will provide expertise, leadership, and collaboration in all areas of the school district and is integral to fulfilling our commitment to recruiting, retaining and supporting a diverse staff, educating a diverse student body and creating a safe and welcoming environment. The Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion Coordinator will collaborate with district stakeholders (students, parents, faculty, staff, and community partners) to continually improve the inclusive, supportive culture of Carmel Clay Schools.

Experience and Qualifications:
Required
• Candidates should have successful experience in leadership and a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in public education.


Preferred
• A Master’s degree in Education, education administration or another related field
• Five (5) years of professional experience in designing, coaching, delivering high-quality culturally responsive curriculum and instructional support to educators, administrators and/or principals in an educational setting, including working with diverse populations in equity, diversity, and cultural initiatives and/or programs and underrepresented student populations
• Preference will be given to a candidate who has experience promoting diversity, equity and inclusion issues; can compile, use, and share data; and has strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well verbally and in writing, especially with students, parents, and community partners from diverse cultures or backgrounds


Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Understands the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion to the broader educational mission of Carmel Clay Schools and is an unrelenting advocate for DEI initiatives
  2. Oversees the development of a systemic districtwide equity program that ensures high levels of learning and equity of opportunity for all CCS students. Develops goals for an equity framework to be used across
    CCS, tracks academic achievement of students, facilitates the District Equity Team, and provides ongoing updates on outcomes related to established DEI goals
  3. Provides coaching to increase capacity of school personnel (i.e. teachers, instructional coaches, and instructional leaders) for the purpose of leading instructional transformation to better meet the academic
    learning needs of historically underrepresented youth. Participates in and facilitates workshops, meetings, community events, etc. for collaborating, sharing, and/or presenting information
  4. Assists district and building administrators with strategies, practices, and policy development that foster increased recruiting, hiring, and retention of a diverse staff
  5. Is highly skilled in strategic planning, program development, and program assessment. Understands and is able to navigate the complex contexts, cultures, and politics within organizations that impact the
    implementation and management of effective diversity and inclusivity change efforts
  6. Is able to identify, collect, and analyze appropriate data in order to assess institutional climate and culture to develop key strategies for improvement. Is able to conduct demographic and enrollment research and able to support CCS personnel in their goals to increase student achievement and decrease gaps in achievement, participation, and engagement
  7. Helps foster, create, and maintain responsive and welcoming school cultures and learning environments in Carmel Clay Schools. Supports the engagement of family and community partners in the various
    academic, instructional, and social/emotional supportive services
  8. Works closely and serves as the point of contact with the city of Carmel and community partners on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion
  9. Displays expert knowledge in diversity, equity and inclusivity issues, including state and federal laws, regulations, and policies
  10. Builds effective teams to launch, champion, and maintain diversity, equity and inclusivity initiatives in complex environments
  11. Educates and trains stakeholders on issues regarding access, equity, inclusivity, identity safe schools and classrooms
  12. Researches topics required to maintain the integrity of the equity work (i.e. relevant policies, new federal and state statutes, financial resources, etc.) for the purpose of developing new programs/services, ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements, securing general information and/or responding to requests
  13. Assists CCS educators and staff in developing their own levels of cultural proficiency that support them in creating culturally supporting learning environments that promote the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success of all students.
  14. Provides timely instructional support when necessitated by local, national, and global events
  15. Supports sponsors of clubs and student groups whose focus is on diversity, equity and inclusion
  16. Demonstrates exemplary communication and listening skills
  17. Serves as Title VI, Title IX and Anti-Harassment Coordinator for the district and oversee compliance
    with grievance procedures
  18. Any other tasks or responsibilities as directed by the superintendent or district leadership

Terms:
• Administrative Contract or Employment Agreement: 260 days
